Netflix To Stop Subscribers From Account Sharing
Netflix had turned a blind eye to this practice, but the company is now facing pressure to increase its revenue.

Netflix, the world’s largest streaming service, is taking action against password sharing by sending warning emails to subscribers who share their accounts with people outside their household.
Previously, Netflix had turned a blind eye to this practice, but the company is now facing pressure to increase its revenue. In the first quarter of 2023, Netflix experienced a loss of 200,000 subscribers, its first decline in over a decade. Factors contributing to this decline include stiff competition from other streaming services like Disney+ and HBO Max.
By cracking down on password sharing, Netflix aims to boost its revenue. The company estimates that around 100 million households are using Netflix accounts without paying for them.
Even converting a fraction of these users into paying customers could result in billions of dollars in additional revenue for Netflix.
The response to this crackdown on password sharing has been mixed. Some subscribers are frustrated by Netflix’s attempt to charge them for something they have been doing for free for years.
On the other hand, there are those who understand Netflix’s perspective and believe the company is justified in trying to recover some of the revenue lost due to password sharing.
In the United States, Netflix offers different pricing tiers: the Standard ad-supported plan for $6.99/month allows streaming on two devices simultaneously, the Basic plan costs $9.99/month for streaming on one device at a time, the Standard plan costs $15.49/month for streaming on two devices simultaneously, and the Premium plan costs $19.99/month for streaming on up to four devices at a time.
