A group called Sugartee has been stopped from holding a three-day kissing event in Ekiti State, where they hoped to set a new Guinness World Record.
The group had advertised that they would start the kissing marathon on July 7 at a popular amusement park in the state capital.
However, the state Ministry of Arts and Culture issued a statement today July 5, prohibiting the event and warning all hotel owners in the state not to host such an activity. The state government said that any hotel that allowed such an activity would face severe sanctions.
The statement, signed by the Director of Tourism Adebanji Adelusi on behalf of the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dele Ogunsemoyin, said that the planned event, tagged ‘Kiss-a-thon’, was absurd, unhealthy, immoral and damaging to the reputation of the state.
‘’Kiss-a-thon” is an event that goes against the values of our people and could corrupt our youths morally.
Therefore, the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hereby bans such an event or any other similar events from taking place in any facility that wants to operate legally in Ekiti State.
You are hereby advised to inform the members of Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to monitor their premises closely and prevent them from being used for any negative purpose that could embarrass the Government and People of Ekiti State.”the statement read
